Twenty Three Pound Pike Through the Ice

by T.C. , Regina

Woo Hoo!

Woo Hoo!

Late last February we were fishing on Last Mountain Lake just north of Regina. We were mostly fishing for perch, but we put a couple tip ups out with smelts on just to see what might happen.

The tip ups were quiet for most of the day, we had just one hit in the morning. About 2:30 in the afternoon we had another hit and this was the result.

A 23 pound northern pike that took about 10 minutes to get through the hole. Twice we thought we were going to lose him at the hole because we were having a tough time getting his head to come up.

At the end of the day we had about 15 perch and this monster.

Tip ups generally haven't produced a lot of fish for me, but I am a believer now. The chance of nailing another fish like this is too enticing.
