In the northwestern part of the province big lake trout keep anglers smiling all winter. Lake of the Woods, for example, provides trophies every year to anglers of all skill levels. The area also offers fast action for walleye, whitefish, brook trout, pike and crappie. A favorite spot in the near north is Lake Temagami. There you can nestle into a rental hut and catch your limit in whitefish, walleye or lake trout. Many anglers have huge success with perch in the area as well. Several outfitters will rent you an ice fishing hut along with on-shore accommodations if you are extending your stay. While in the south, fishing the Muskoka Harbor and the Haliburton Highlands offer unbelievable scenery and some terrific fishing. The whitefish and lake trout keep all anglers on top of their toes. If you are looking for some big perch, check out Lake Simcoe. Some of the biggest jumbo perch come out of this lake every winter. There are also plenty of ice fishing huts to keep you warm. With the number of lakes literally in the hundreds of thousands, Ontario has more ice fishing action than anywhere on the continent. Whether it is pike, crappie, walleye, trout or perch, you can find it across this great province. Every winter there are more trophy fish than you can count coming out of these waters.
