Fish Chili Recipe

A fish chili recipe is great tasting food and easy to prepare. A nice change from ground beef, fish chili recipes usually double well and can be a crowd pleaser. Serve it with fresh bread (and cold beer) you will have a terrific meal.

OK, let‘s check out a fish chili recipe or two…

Red Bean Walleye Chili

1 1/2 Pounds of walleye fillets

2 Tbsp vegetable oil

3 Garlic minced garlic cloves

1 Large minced onion

1 Tsp ground cumin

1/2 Tsp ground coriander

1 Tsp cinnamon

2 Tbsp chili powder

1 Tsp oregano

1/2 Tsp cayenne pepper

1 Can drained can of kidney beans (16 ounce)

1 Fresh green pepper (chopped)

2 Cans crushed tomatoes (14 ounce)

1/2 Tsp salt

Pepper to taste

Place a large saucepan over medium heat and for 2 minutes cook the oil, onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, coriander, cinnamon, oregano and cayenne pepper.

Add the crushed tomatoes, freshly chopped green pepper, can of drained kidney beans, pepper and salt. Stir for one minute.

Place the diced walleye fillets into the mixture and gently stir them into the tomatoes.

Reduce heat and simmer for 12-15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Sweet Pepper Pike Chili

1 Pound boneless northern pike fillets

1 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 Cup celery

1/2 Cup chopped onions

1/2 Cup diced orange peppers

1/2 Cup diced red peppers

2 Cloves of garlic, minced

2 Cans of crushed tomatoes (14 ounce)

1 Can drained red kidney beans

2 Tbsp cornstarch

1/4 Cup of water

2 Tbsp parsley

1 Tsp Chili powder

3/4 Tsp salt

1/8 Tsp Cayenne pepper

Cut the pike fillets into 1 inch chunks.

In a large sauce pan, sauté the celery, onions, red pepper, orange pepper and garlic in the oil. Cook until tender. Add all remaining ingredients excepts the pike.

Cover and simmer 30 thirty minutes or until the mixture begins to thicken. Stir occasionally.

Include the pike. Simmer for 7 to 10 minutes or until the fish easily flakes.

Terrific served on wild rice.
