Fillet Northern Pike

Remove the Y bones

Learn how to fillet northern pike and treat yourself to a terrific meal. Northern pike are a wonderful eating fish (particularly when caught in cold water). Make sure you keep the pike you catch next time out.

Those that are “in the know” are thrilled when they catch a good eating sized pike. Any pike between 3 and 6 pounds are perfect for munching on. With pike less than 2 pounds you will not get enough meat to make a decent sized meal.

Too often inexperienced anglers throw back the northern pike they catch. They love the battle and gritty nature of the fish, but in many cases they don’t want to clean the pike. But you know what? It is not that difficult.

Cleaning a northern pike is not much different than cleaning a walleye. If you know how to clean a walleye you are about 80% home when it comes to filleting a pike. There is just one more simple step you need to do while cleaning pike compared to walleye. It is covered below.

Check out the simple video instruction. You be the judge. With the procedure highlighted below we are certain you will be keeping your pike from now on.

Bon appetite.
