Fenwick Fishing Rods

Fenwick Fishing Rods; Roughly 50 years ago, a fledgling young rod-producing company was born out of a friend’s double-garage. Although the years have come and gone the quality of the Fenwick fishing products has not changed.


From its humble beginning in that small garage, to some of the biggest names in North America today, the Fenwick Fishing Rod Company boasts some of the most high-tech and popular freshwater fishing rods in the industry. I have used a Fenwick Flippin Stick for years now, and have caught a healthy amount of smallmouth bass, and various other freshwater fishing game species, on this terrific and durable Fenwick masterpiece.

Phil Clock’s Vision

Fenwick Fishing Rods were brought into the modern day world by the effective leadership skills of Phil Clock. Mr. Clock’s distinctive high-energy personality, combined with a passion for all things fishy, led Fenwick in to being one of the new-worlds most admired and profitable freshwater fishing rod manufacturers.

Running right alongside great manufacturers such as Shakespeare and Zebco, Fenwick has set the bar high for superb quality, extremely well constructed, freshwater fishing rods. Mr. Clock knew by the time the 1970's rolled around the positive effect graphite would have on the previously, fiberglass-only fishing rod industry. Fenwick became the first rod manufacturer to introduce an all-graphite fishing rod, with the name that is now world-famous, HMG.

The HMG model is graphite, otherwise known as the Akron HMT, and would prove to be the mainstay, and still holds that title as the preferred substance for creating fantastic and highly efficient and productive, freshwater fishing rods. Presently, there are not many freshwater fishing rods that would dare not have at least a percentage of the composite makeup of graphite.

One of the best benefits of all the Fenwick freshwater rods, including the Trigger Stick line, is that the handle is made of 100% pure cork. I only use cork these days and I would not use anything else as cork is very comfortable and also is naturally padded. The cork has a no-slip grip, even when wet, and is made in the unique shape of a trigger, hence the name, ‘trigger stick’. This rod is made for bait-casting reels and the trigger a huge plus for control and definite accuracy, so that every cast will be the best cast without fail.
