Canada fishing vacations can provide you with memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you are going fly-fishing in BC, Walleye fishing in Saskatchewan, or Muskie fishing in Ontario, you have a lot of different options. Just make sure you are prepared.

A Canadian fishing trip in the spring is the most popular out of all the seasons. The fish are most active this time of year and can be caught at will sometimes. In northern Canada, May and June can be beautiful from a weather point of view. In fact, it can get down right hot.

Radical shifts in weather can happen while on a Canadian fishing trip. So here is, unofficially, things you need to consider while on a fishing vacation.

Required Equipment

Fishing rods – with at least 1 spare

Fishing reels – with at least 1 spare

Tackle to match the species in the lake

Extra line (usually 8 to 10 pound test)

Depth finder (optional)

A net (outfitter may have this)

A good knife and sharpener

Matches or a lighter

Communication device

Map of the lake you are fishing

Wearables

Life Jacket (if not supplied by outfitter)

Good rain gear (something effective)

Good sunglasses (polarized are the best – they really take the glare off the water)

Warm jackets

A hat with a brim

4 or 5 long sleeve shirts (allow you to dress in layers)

Long underwear

T-Shirts

Shorts

Extra pair of shoes or rubber boots (in case it rains)

Lots of socks

Other items

Fishing license for the jurisdiction you are fishing

Cooler for snacks and drinks (plenty of water)

Camera with plenty of film

Personal items

Insect repellant

Sunscreen

Lip balm

If Crossing the border

Proof of citizenship

Other identification, credit cards

Health insurance

If you have never been on Canada fishing vacations in the past, you are in for a treat. The scenery and the smell of the air are the perfect combination of relaxation and excitement. Don’t wait too long to book your trip, especially if you are hoping to go in the spring!
