Canada Fishing Lodges
Choose your level of service
Canada fishing lodges provide anglers all the amenities needed for a terrific vacation. There are a number of different service levels available, and make no mistake some fishing lodges are more customer focused than others. Like anything else, you need to do your homework.
A good fishing lodge should have the basics. These include obvious things like boat rentals, the options for guides and fish cleaning and freezing service. Most Canada fishing lodges go over and above these basic items to include things to make your vacation as laid back and comfortable as possible.
Many locations offer maid service on a daily basis allowing you to come back to a clean cabin after your day on the water. Some Canada fishing lodges still do not have showers in each cabin, but rather have a common shower house. If this is something that is important to you, make sure you check it out.
Shore lunch is a service that is often offered as an “option” to your day on the water. Many Canada fishing lodges have the cost of a shore lunch built right into the cost of your stay. But many locations do not! Make sure you ask, and don’t assume anything. A shore lunch is a fantastic thing to do on your fishing trip, but make sure you get the pricing model up front!
Almost all fishing camps will have a bait and tackle shop. On top of the bait and tackle, ask the camp owner what else the store has to offer. Quite often you will have ice, soda, a small selection of groceries and toiletries. It can help you decide what you might want to haul on your trip there, and what to buy when you get there. Keep in mind, the more remote you are, the more these items are going to cost you!
As you get into the higher end Canada fishing lodges you really start to get pampered. Most locations on the high end have laundry service. At the very least they have a washer and dryer for you to use. Towel service from the housekeeper is another element that makes your fishing excursion that much nicer (you might even get a mint on your pillow)!
Full restaurant service is becoming common place at the upper end of the scale for Canada fishing lodges. If you want your fish prepared for you or if you are looking for a gourmet meal when you get off the water, there is something for you. The meals prepared at a number of these lodges can be very high end. If you decide to spend some extra money on a fishing camp that offers meal service, more often than not you will be satisfied.
Some Canada fishing lodges really go all out when it comes to service. In-cabin hot tubs are available at some locations. How about fresh coffee arriving to your door at your requested time in the morning? Some camps even go so far as providing a hot breakfast delivered straight to your boat. This allows you to get out on the water as soon as you can to nail the early bite, and still have your hot eggs and bacon! Talk about roughing it!
Many Canada fishing lodges
are aiming some of their services at the corporate market. Group rates and corporate rates are available at many locations. Break out rooms and meeting rooms are provided with all the services required to stage planning sessions and other business activities.
For many however, the high-end service levels are nice but not necessary. Obviously the more services you desire on your trip, the more it is going to cost. If you are going to spend some “extra dough” there are other things you can consider! For example, many fishing camps offer an option for a one-day fly in fishing trip.
A one-day “fly in” allows an angler to stay at the base camp and enjoy all the amenities. Rather than fishing the main lake that day, you and your party are flown out early in the morning. Your destination is a deserted lake that the outfitter has transported a handful of boats to. These lakes are usually devoid of any cabins and any sign of people. These one day trips can offer tremendous fishing at these remote locations, as the fish are plentiful and quite often large! It is a fantastic feeling knowing you have a lake to yourself. The plane will come back and get you at the end of the day! This is an option if you can afford, you should seriously consider!
There are a number of websites identifying the vast array of Canada fishing lodges to choose from. Take your time exploring. If you find the number of options online to daunting, then make it easy on yourself. Figure out where you want to travel for your Canadian fishing trip, and contact the provincial tourism office. They will have the best camps registered with them, and should be able to point you in the right direction.
Canada fishing lodges offer some of the most memorable experiences for many people. Getting out into the wilderness with many of the comforts of home can be an absolute pleasure. Figure out if you want to be pampered, or if you want to rough it a little. Use that as a starting point, and start making your decision!
