Canada Fishing Camps

Top Reasons to Visit

Northern Canada Fishing Camps can provide you with the perfect combination of comfort and adventure. The fishing is great and the scenery is even better! If you have not visited one, you don’t know what you are missing.

Now, I must admit, as I write this I am stuck in a boardroom listening to a presentation about how “businesses” can improve their productivity. One word keeps popping into my head – BORING! The presenter is one of these people that love to hear themselves talk. It’s the 4th presenter of the day, and the content has been continuously going downhill since lunch time.

My mind wanders to a number of different places but it keeps coming back to the north and one of the Canada fishing camps we frequent every year. I don’t know if you listen to Jimmy Buffett (if you don’t you should). He has a line in a song called A Pirate Looks at Forty that goes “I got to stop wishin’, got to go fishin’ I’m down to rock bottom again”. Well I’ve got a case of that right now and even though I should be paying attention, I just can’t do it.

So, in an attempt to keep my creativity from being completely destroyed by the monotone dialogue in front of me, I thought I would list the best things about fishing in Northern Canada – and in particular staying at one of the many great Canada fishing camps! Originally, it was going to be a list of 10, but I easily came up with 18. Take a peek and see what many anglers appreciate about the north.

The smell of the air. When you are in the north, breath deep. Your lungs will fill with the crisp fresh smell it offers. That in itself is worth getting away!

The water is unspoiled and often untouched. Imagine a body of water where the only thing that “disturbs it” is the wake from your boat. Seclusion is a big reason anglers visit Canada fishing camps every year.

The fish can be huge. Think about it. Who’s around to catch them? They have years to grow on lakes with no pressure from anglers.

The fish are plentiful. See number four.

The fish are spirited in their fight. Don’t know why, but big fish from the north seem down right angry when you hook them!

You develop a kinship with your companions you don’t back home. Something happens when you are in a remote location. You laugh more and appreciate each other more. Canada fishing camps are a great atmosphere to introduce your kids to.

The water is crystal clear. Have you ever seen a pike strike your hook 40 feet from the boat?

The beer tastes better. Nuff’ said!

Fish, brown beans and bread can cover all the food groups if you use your imagination. Seriously, fresh fish caught that day can be the best meal you will have during the year. The other stuff on your plate is just for show.

The majestic nature of the Canadian Shield will leave you in awe. What the glaciers did to northern Canada thousands of years ago has left an abundance of rock structures and countless lakes that simply must be seen!

The amazing variety of wild-life. Everything from bald eagles to black bears to gigantic moose. Seeing wildlife in the north is a treat every angler appreciates.

The friendly nature of the people. Not sure where these folks come from, but they’re gracious, they’re real and they want you to catch fish!

The length of the day. If you go in the spring, you might notice the sun never quite goes down! In the spring the sun can be up well past midnight.

The deep blue color of the sky. There is no smog in these remote locations to contaminate the air. The result; a blue Sinatra would be proud of.

The smell of sizzling fresh fish . Sure it’s tasty, but it smells amazing too! It makes picking from the frying pan impossible to avoid.

Kids reaction to the north. This is an adventure for every kid. Explore an island. Take a hike. Catch some fish. Your kids will never forget a trip to one of your favorite Canada fishing camps.

No traffic. It’s just you and the north. The closest thing to rush hour is the family of loons crossing the bay.

Thanks for reading and good luck out there!
